SPELLBINDERS | SKY’S THE LIMIT BY SIMON HURLEY | Happy Birthday + You Brighten my Day

Is there anything more fun than crafting with colorful shapes?

Today I’m sharing two cards I created using the new die set  Sky's the Limit Simon Hurley Collection for Spellbinders. This collection is pure joy: each element lets you play with color combos, textures, and layering that make every card one-of-a-kind. 🌈.

I explored two different layouts: one vertical and one horizontal. The goal? To highlight each die piece and play with the composition to achieve a dynamic, creative result in both versions.

I started with a white vertical base. For the front panel, I used an embossing folder to add texture and softly blended it with yellow ink to create a warm and cheerful background. Then I die-cut a white frame, allowing the embossed panel to peek through the center and create a beautiful layered effect.

On both edges of the frame, added the colorful kite, bringing balance and movement to the design. The sentiment “Happy Birthday” was foiled in black using the Glimmer Hot Foil of the Month, adding a bold and elegant touch.

This second card takes a different approach with a horizontal layout. I created a white panel with a wide border of colorful stripes, stacked with foam adhesive to give it a dimensional look. On the opposite corners, I placed the kites, contrasting the colors to create visual interest.

In the center, I added the sentiment: “You Brighten My Day” in black ink—a cheerful phrase that perfectly matches the vibe of the card.

Both cards were finished off with black enamel dots in the center of each kite, a simple detail that enhances the colorful elements.  What I loved most about this collection is the flexibility to mix and match any color combo you like.

Let me know in the comments if you prefer the embossed vertical card or the horizontal one!
