Handmade Happy Birthday Card Die Cutting | Color Dare Challenge #700
Welcome back Peeps!!
Today I want to share one of those projects that from the very first moment I knew was going to be something special. This is a masculine birthday card I made while joining Color Dare Challenge #700 — one of my favorite challenges because it pushes you to step outside your comfort zone and work with palettes you might not choose on your own.
The combination I used for this challenge: navy blue, gray, and mint green, with black and white,
The result? A card with depth, texture, and a masculine personality that speaks for itself. Let's dive in!
This is the color pallete:
I used a A2 white cardstock card as my base and layered a full front panel of navy blue cardstock. The next element a vertical strip of gray cardstock with embossed Demilune geometric circles, that geometric pattern creates a subtle but sophisticated texture that completely transforms the flat strip — dry embossing is a technique that never fails for masculine projects. I've placed strategically at the center of the card base vertically to the navy blue panel to create a visual cross that divides the front into zones and adds movement.
I realized that positioning it slightly off-center gave the composition so much more dynamism — those intuitive decisions are what take a design from good to unforgettable.
I stamped the sentiment "happy birthday woohoo!" using a stamp set with script typography combined with sans-serif, in black ink — the contrast of black on white is clean, readable, and elegant, perfect for a masculine card where you don't want the message to get lost among the colors.
I mounted this banner crossing the entire front, layered over both the navy panel and the gray strip, reinforcing that sense of overlapping layers with real depth. The finishing touch was two mini die cut banners in mint green and gray, adhered with foam adhesive at the intersection point of the design to activate the accent color of the palette and give elevation and visual direction to the layering.
